70 Day Sweat Update

I've been working on the 70 day sweat and doing pretty good. I'm up to over 17 K! I'm so excited. I've been getting more written per day lately than I have in months and it feelts great. I know it will need more work than some of what I've written recently. I'm not taking the time to make sure that everyword is the best word for what I mean. Some of the transitions between scenes are a little rough when I look back over what I've written. But I'm still happy with it.

I break up my writing into two sessions or try to. A little or over 1100 words a day isn't too much to ask. I've been doing that as well as work on another project. The true test is coming. I have to get a newsletter out in the next week and part of it involves a chapter of an ongoing free story. I still have to do that part and clean it up. So procrastination can not be an option if I want to keep on my goal. Also I'm doing a little cleaning on a finished product.

My word counts, like always, are estimates. I'm fully expecting to run over 30k on Lisia's Journey. It's turning out to have more elements than I'd expected. Primal Encounter will make 50k if not more. And I'm liking my heroines even though I'm learning about them as I go along. Dari from Primal Encounter has made me laugh with her attitude and some of her thoughts. I kid you not she wanted to rip the hero's... Okay I'm keeping what she wanted to rip and why secret for a while. It might just make a good excerpt. That story heated up quickly. Now Lisia's journey is taking a bit of a different route, but aside from attitude stemming from the situations within the scenes they're happy and telling me what happens.

So good luck to all of those doing the 70 Days of Sweat and happy writing!

Sweating with Sven

This is Sven, the personal trainer for 70 days of sweat. Sven sure is sweating. And I'm doing pretty good too. I did the math for 80k I have to write around 1143 words per day. It's more than doable. I'm still a little nervous about it. Lately, I've been having a few problems writing as much as I used to. Couldn't figure out why. That's why I decided to do this challenge. To get my writing back on track.

Now I started off writingPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket and found myself going back over what I'd just written trying to get every word right. After doing that, it occured to me ---I'm never going to make 80k if I keep rewriting. Did you hear the forehead smack?

It took trying to get a certain wordcount done in a day to make me see it and that's why I'm blushing. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketI don't know why I didn't see it before. My internal editor has been stomping word count into smithereens. I don't even want to imagine how much I could have written, what I could be working on if I hadn't been such a perfectionist.

Realizing this did help, but I had to keep myself from going back and doing it. It had become a habit and I have to break it.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket My new mantra is "leave the editing for the second draft."

So less thinking about getting every word perfect and more getting the story out. Seeing the problem has helped, the only day I haven't actually made the 1143 goal was the first day. I did just under 1100 that day. I've gotten more done on the shorter story Lisia's Journey than I did on Primal Encounter, but I'll be working on them both today.

If you're part of the 70 day challenge don't forget to check in on Wednesdays and Sundays at Alison's blog and good luck.

70 Days of Sweat

I just signed up for the 70 days of Sweat challenge over on Allison Kent's blog. I'll be working on two books. Primal Encounter which I'm determined to kick out of stalled status. It's getting a new beginning and a new attitude. I've got the hero's name now and a pretty good idea of where I'm going. (Well as good of an idea as this pantser ever has.) I'll also be working on Lisia's Journey, a cat shifter story that I'm just beginning involving some nasty space pirates and a woman just trying to get home. All total, I hope to write 80,000 words in 70 days.

I'll be checking in occasionally here with progress on these two WIP.

Good luck to everyone who's doing the challenge.

Writing update

Well, I'm back. I've been writing and have made some good progress. The story that I've been calling Denise's Men finally has a new name that I absolutely love. It's now called Guarded Beginnings.

The werewolf story that I've been working on has a name, Close Contact. The characters are very active right now and I hope to finish it soon.

In other WIP news, I had put Primal Encounter to the side because it had stalled. I'll be pulling it out of hiding soon. I've got a few ideas on how to make it work now. It's time. Dari's story really needs to be told. I'll be starting the story again and taking it from a different angle. The hero's name will have to change, but his looks won't. He'll still look like a very buff Legolas.

Tomorrow, I'll be posting the winner of my website contest.

Have a great night,
